Industry Academia Interaction at SIT Pune under Industry Conclave 2026

Mr. Sumanto Kar, Assistant Project Manager at FOSSEE, IIT Bombay, had been invited as an Industry Representative by the Department of EXTC at Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune, for the Industry Conclave 2026. The conclave provided an opportunity to interact with faculty members, students, and industry professionals from varied disciplines. The event featured student project showcases, panel discussions on emerging technologies, laboratory visits, and discussions on internships, training, placements, and collaborative opportunities.During the conclave, Mr. Sumanto Kar shared insights from the FOSSEE Project at IIT Bombay and discussed how open source tools such as eSim are helping bridge the gap between academia and industry by making Electronics Design Automation (EDA) learning and practice more accessible. The interaction concluded with meaningful discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between academia and industry and promoting open source technologies in engineering education.

eSim at Chennai FOSS 2026

At ChennaiFOSS 2026, Mr. Sumanto Kar, Assistant Project Manager at FOSSEE, IIT Bombay, delivered a talk titled Teaching Electronics with eSim, where he demonstrated how eSim, a powerful open-source EDA tool, enables seamless circuit design, simulation, and PCB layout. The session emphasized the growing importance of open-source solutions in making electronics education more accessible, affordable, and practical for students, educators, and enthusiasts, while reducing dependence on costly proprietary software. His talk provided valuable insights into the role of open-source EDA in fostering innovation and enhancing hands-on learning experiences.The event, held on April 18 at Indian Institute of Technology Madras from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, witnessed participation from over 400 conference attendees. Around 60 participants attended the talk, while more than 100 visitors engaged with the FOSSEE, IIT Bombay stall. The stall served as an interactive platform for live demonstrations, discussions, and knowledge exchange, reflecting strong interest in open-source technologies and their applications in electronics design and education.

Hands-On Workshop on Mixed Signal Circuit Simulation and PCB Design At RIT Chennai

At Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology Chennai, in association with the FOSSEE Club, a hands-on workshop on Mixed Signal Circuit Simulation and PCB Design using eSim was successfully conducted. The session was led by Mr. Sumanto Kar, Assistant Project Manager at FOSSEE, IIT Bombay, who shared his expertise and guided participants through practical aspects of mixed-signal circuit design and simulation using the open-source tool eSim. The workshop emphasized the importance of open-source technologies in enhancing accessibility and practical learning in electronics education, supported by initiatives from IIT Bombay.The event, held on April 17 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Wozniak Auditorium, witnessed active participation from over 200 attendees, including students and faculty members. The session provided valuable hands-on experience and fostered deeper understanding of circuit simulation and PCB design, making it an enriching learning experience for all participants.

Analog IC Design Bootcamp

The Analog IC Design Bootcamp, conducted from April 11 to April 13 (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM IST) by the eSim (FOSSEE, IIT Bombay) team under the IEEE Open Silicon Initiative in collaboration with Navia Labs, introduced participants to the complete open-source analog IC design flow through hands-on sessions covering schematic design and simulation (April 11), physical layout and DRC (April 12), and verification and sign-off (April 13); guided by guest speaker Vipul Sharma, the program emphasized practical learning and promoted open-source IC design, enabling students to gain real-world exposure and move toward building and fabricating their own silicon designs. -
eSim Hands-on Workshop in Collaboration with PGCA, IIT Bombay

The eSim Team, in collaboration with PGCA, IIT Bombay, conducted a Hands-on Workshop on the Open Source EDA Tool eSim at LC002 on 18th March 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, led by Mr. Sumanto Kar, IIT Bombay alumnus and Assistant Project Manager at FOSSEE. The session was coordinated by Research Assistants Mr. Varad Patil and Ms. Shanthi Priya from the eSim Team at FOSSEE, IIT Bombay.The workshop provided practical exposure to electronic circuit design and SPICE-based simulation through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises. It witnessed active participation from B.Tech (UG), Master’s, and PhD students from IIT and other institutes, along with staff members, including international attendees from Myanmar. The session was highly interactive, with queries and doubts effectively addressed, making it an engaging and impactful learning experience for all participants.
